Gallery Three:  Prints of Places [1700's - 1800's]

The mat includes a 23.75 kt. hand-laid Rosenoble gold leaf bevel and a hand-painted layered bevel.  [$900]

There are many wonderful prints of places and landscapes from the 1700's and 1800's.  Copper plate engravings were used until about 1830, when they were replaced by steel engravings, Steel engravings allowed for finer detail. 


There are also some wonderful etchings, aquatints, and stone lithographs from this period.


Most of the prints where published in books instead of by subscription, and were not colored because of the expense.  Hand-coloring was added at a later date.
